  • That One Thing You Said: an exhibit of visual poetry

    We are hiring a Volunteer Coordinator

    This exhibit explores language as an agent in pivotal moments, whether interpersonally, socially or globally. Five visual poets (Jordan Abel, Dina Del Bucchia, Lindsay Cahill, Helen Hajnoczky, and Eric Schmaltz) create works that respond to this concept. The exhibit hopes to blur the distinction between visual poetry and visual art by engaging with progressive, reactionary and confessional texts.

This is the 1st of 2 semi-finals. The performing poets will be announced on this page, as soon as we know who is competing in which final.

    What’s Happening at Vancouver Poetry House

    The Jamboree kicks off Hullabaloo, the youth spoken word section of the festival with feature Morgan Purvis, Victoria's former Youth Poet Laureate. All teams will be invited to perform a one-minute intro poem to tell us more about themselves and their school. You don’t need to be on a participating team to attend. Don’t be shy. Come on down and help us start this festival right!

It brings the poignancy, hilarity, and immediacy of slam poetry competitions to the stage. The All-Star Slam pits three former poetry slam champions head to head to head in an all-out battle of poetic verve and wit.

Then there’s rhyme and alliteration. Poets have spent years investigating the nooks and crannies of those areas. What about the presentation of the text? Or the magical land of improvisation?
