Naseem Bahraini is a 21-year-old Scorpio from British Columbia. She became accustomed with Slam when she was searching for something to do during her senior year lunch breaks. That’s where she was introduced to the slam poetry club and to a friendly and passionate English teacher, Ms. Maxwell. Since then she’s been hooked, and was even able to participate and win the Underground Indies at Hullabaloo 2017.
She weaves her love for slam and music together, channeling her fears and experiences to share with others her story. “It’s like a therapy session, except you get to tell your story without having to pay [anyone].”
Sticking with slam poetry has been easy. The therapeutic aspect of writing aside, she finds that the sense of community among poets is like no other—a mutual appreciation that’s always present in these circles.
