Derek” Manik” Edenshaw

Derek” Manik” Edenshaw-  Manik is a  Haida/Cree , East Vancouver poet / MC. He started performing traditional Haida song and dance as a toddler.  He has since made his name as a spokesperson for the Native Youth Movement as well as his affiliations with the collectives – Tribal Wizdom – FreshCoast – Stressed Street – Ephin/Stompdown – Sunday Skool Dropoutz , Urban Buffaloes and the StarMaker Family.  The last decade he has spent a lot of his energy painting Murals with Nomadic Alternatives and creating his name as a visual artist. He also runs the Non Profit called the Native Hip Hop Society which is responsible for the annual Native Hip Hop Festival. He has been writing and recording what he refers to as the continuation of Raven’s story , which he insists didn’t abruptly stop at the arrival of settlers.
