New Festival Name and Dates Announced

After more than 140 entries from 50 different participants, a new name has been chosen for the poetry festival hosted by Vancouver Poetry House each April. The festival will now be called: Verses Festival of Words and will happen next year April 8–13, 2013. The winner of the festival renaming contest is Duncan Shields who suggested Verses as the new festival name and will receive two festival passes.

The core of the Verses Festival of Words is the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam (CIPS) hosted in partnership with Spoken Word Canada (SpoCan). Verses has received support from the Vancouver Foundation to expand this year, adding the first-ever Spoken Word Marquee Series, which will feature outrageously talented poets and storytellers from East Van and around the world.

Within the next few weeks, we will be announcing the CIPS registration process for venue reps as well as storm poets. We’ll also be announcing some of the amazing feature acts we have for the Spoken Word Marquee Series. It’s all very exciting. Stay tuned and save the dates.
