Hullabaloo Returns: April 20 to 22
Teams Registration, All Star Slam tickets, Available Now
Are your students ready to slam? Do you know some young poets looking for a space to spit some verse? Hullabaloo is the place for them.
Once again, Hullabaloo returns to the Vancouver Public Library’s Central Branch, from Thursday, April 20th to Saturday, April 22nd. The festival includes performances and workshops from some of Canada’s top spoken word artists, such as The All Star Slam at The Rio Theatre, as well as a team tournament, a head-to-head slam, and opportunities for young writers and performers to share poems with endlessly enthusiastic audiences. From start – the Spoken Word Jamboree featuring Ronnie Dean Harris aka. Ostwelve – to finish – the Hullabaloo Finals featuring Jeremy Loveday – Hullabaloo is three days of non-stop wordplay.
Teams consist of 3 to 6 poets, all of whom must perform at least one poem in the festival. Registration costs $200, and guarantees your team a spot in the Hullabaloo tournament; a spot in the Underground Indies; a two-hour workshop with a WordPlay Poets artist; sweet t-shirts; and festival passes good for not only Hullabaloo, but the Verses Festival of Words (including the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam championship).
The All Star Slam is always one of our most popular events – and with good reason! A packed house at the Rio Theatre and top-tier talent on-stage makes for an electric poetry show your students will love. The All Star Slam takes place on April 21st, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM and tickets are $6. (Free for teachers/chaperones.)
2017’s show brings together the talents of four poets who have all rocked national slam finals stages. Hosted by the inimitable Johnny Trinh, this event will be a head-to-head-to-head poetry battle between Vancouver’s Dana I.D. Matthews, Toronto’s Charlie C Petch, and Montreal’s Rabbit Richards.
