Hullabaloo 2016: School Registration Now Open!

Team registration for Hullabaloo 2016 is now open. It is on a first-come, first-served basis, along with consideration for regional representation around BC. We are planning to admit only 16 teams to this year’s tournament, so it’s a good idea to register sooner than later.
We offer pre-registration to teams that participated last year. That is now closed. 12 schools have already signed up through pre-registration, so there are 4 spots available.
The festival will take place April 21–23, 2016, at the Vancouver Public Library’s Central Branch. Our feature poets will be Lishai Peel and former Victoria Poet Laureate, Janet Rogers.
Please read Tourney Format for full details on how the tournament runs. This year, teams can be as small as 3 students or as large as 6 students to provide more flexibility to schools, some of which are just starting, others of which want have big slam clubs.
Registering your school is a simple two step process:
1. Send an email (to wordplaypoets@gmail.com) to our Youth Education Coordinator, Johnny MacRae, with the name of your school, the teacher sponsor of your slam club, and a phone number/email for the team’s contact person. This will reserve your spot, pending the receipt of your registration fee.
2. Requisition a cheque for $200 (non-refundable, once deposited) made out to “Vancouver Poetry House” (ask Johnny for an invoice if you need one) and mail it to:
Vancouver Poetry House c/o Erin Kirsh
#5 – 1430 Maple Street
Vancouver, BC    V6J 3R9
Team registration closes on March 15th, 2016.  To guarantee your spot, registration payment must be received by March 8, 2016 (general registration).
As part of registering for Hullabaloo, your slam club receives one 2-hour workshop with a WordPlay poet. Once your registration is confirmed, this workshop can be arranged.
Alright, that was a lot of info. Questions? Please email Johnny (at wordplaypoets@gmail.com).  That goes for any questions you might have about helping your slam club or staging a poetry slam or open mic at your school as well.
P.S. If you want to bring entire classes to Hullabaloo, you can reserve seats for the All-Star Slam on Friday, April 22 (12:30-2pm), which will take place at The Rio Theatre (right beside the Broadway SkyTrain station). This year’s slam showcases Lishai Peel, Janet Rogers, and Winona Linn going head-to-head-to-head in a competition that puts the best spoken word in Vancouver on display. It’s entertaining and interactive poetry at its best – and the students decide the winner! The All-Star Star costs just $6/student with teachers and parent guardians admitted free of charge. Email Johnny (at wordplaypoets@gmail.com) to reserve seats today!
