Announcing POETRY JAM!
We’re excited to be announce that we’ll be launching a new hybrid event series in partnership with Historic Joy Kogawa House: POETRY JAM!
Starting on February 20th, we’ll be hosting the first ever Poetry Jam! We’ll be hosting this event in-person and online on the 3rd Thursday of every month!
ABOUT POETRY JAM
“It takes a community to build an artist, whether we resist against it, or are nurtured by it.”
For all poets and folks interested in spoken word poetry. Poetry Jam offers an opportunity for folks to write, edit, rehearse, discuss, and share spoken word poetry. Led by VPH Artistic Director Johnny D Trinh, this series aims to remove the pressure of performance at a slam or open mic, and amplify the space and time needed to explore, be weird, and practice the craft together.
At each Poetry Jam event, Johnny or a curated guest facilitator will guide attendees through group workshopping sessions, as well as a guided writing exercise. Around 5 or 6 poets can sign up to share poems and receive feedback or insights on how they might improve their composition and/or delivery. And if you simply love poetry and want to listen to poets share and develop their craft in a relaxed, informal setting, you’re more than welcome to join as well.
Whether you come to share poems and receive feedback, or as a witness to poems living and growing, we hope you’ll join us for this new monthly series!
