Hullabaloo 2019 Coming Soon!

The best time of year is fast approaching!

Hullabaloo 2019 takes place from Thursday, April 25th, to Saturday, April 27th, at Vancouver Public Library’s Central Branch and East Van’s Rio Theatre.
As always, we’ll kick things off on Thursday night with our Spoken Word Jamboree, this year featuring Halifax’s 5th Poet Laureate, the incomparable El Jones. Following the Jamboree will be the always thrilling Underground Indies competition. We’ll get started again early on Friday, with the matinee All Star Slam, featuring Jones, former Victoria Youth Poet Laureate, Ann-Bernice Thomas, and Vancouver-based poet and rapper, Francis Arevalo. That night will be our first set of preliminary slam bouts. Young poets will gather again early Saturday with Jones, Thomas, Arevalo, and Hullabaloo Finals feature, Rup Sidhu, for our Adventures in Poetryland workshop event. After that afternoon’s second preliminary round, we’ll figure out which four teams will perform at Hullabaloo Finals, and who will win the coveted Billy Sharkspeare Trophy!
How do you get involved? Get together a team from your school and then register on Wednesday, February 13th – the same day you can purchase tickets for the All Star Slam! Have questions? Contact Hullabaloo director RC Weslowski.
