DESCRIPTION:Come join us for another night of slam poetry! As always\, our event is in our hybrid live & online format. Bring yourselves and your words to Community Pizza\, 1191 Commercial Dr\, or to the Van Slam zoom space. \nFranz Seachel is a South-Asian settler residing on unceded Coast-Salish lands of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish)\, Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and  šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmaɁɬ təməxʷ (Musqueam) nations. She’s a multidisciplinary artist\, organizer\, and workshop facilitator. Franz has a B.A. in Creative Writing from Kwantlen Polytechnic University. She is the Founder/ Executive Director of Enable: Arts Society\, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting community-based and collaborative art projects by emerging and/or marginalized voices. Their work has been featured at Word Vancouver\, Voices of Today in Toronto\, Vancouver Poetry Slam\, Richmond World Festival\, Victoria Poetry Project\, and Surrey Muses\, amongst others. Franz is a creator of space. They believe in the connection of art. She believes art makes living bearable and does her best to put more colour into the world. She means this both in the sense of brightening up the mundane with creation\, as well as in her mission to uplift the truths of marginalized bodies. She teaches writing workshops on embodying the writing practice by combining her knowledge as a Yoga teacher to focus on the practice of creative play. Bring yourselves and your words to Community Pizza\, 1191 Commercial Dr\, or to the Van Slam zoom space. \nDonna-Michelle St. Bernard is a Canadian playwright\, theatre director\, emcee\, and arts administrator. She is a three-time nominee for the Governor General’s Award for English-Language Drama receiving nods at the 2011 Governor General’s Awards for Gas Girls\, at the 2016 Governor General’s Awards for A Man A Fish\, and at the 2020 Governor General’s Awards for Sound of the Beast. \nGas Girls also won a Dora Mavor Moore Award in 2010 for Best New Play in the independent theatre division\,as well as an Enbridge PlayRites Award from Alberta Theatre Projects\, and the Herman Voaden Playwriting Competition .Her other plays have included Cake\,The House You Build\,and Salome’s Clothes. \nOriginally from the Grenadines St. Bernard resides in Hamilton\, OntarioShe teaches at the National Theatre School\,and is currently the Artistic Director of New Harlem Productions\, which is an intercultural\, interdisciplinary organization creating work that advances the craft\, elevates allies\, and engages with communities\, employing practices “based on principles of humanity\, joyfulness and solidarity.” \nSign up to read starts at 7:30 both in person and online. Her poetry intertwines lived experience and mental health training to meditate on issues of the human condition\, as well as the simple moments that make us human. She is published in various zines in the UK. Renite’s self-published chapbook\, ‘Humanize’ is an exploration of grief\, healing and addiction.
