SUMMARY:Hullabaloo Slams: Round 2!
DESCRIPTION:The second slate of prelims kicks off\, with all 16 teams competing for the second time in less than 24 hours! Following Round 1 of preliminary competitions on Friday night\, some teams are still in it to win it and some teams are going out with a bang\, so Round 2 is bound to be mind-blowing! \nLocation: Alma VanDusen & Peter Kaye rooms (downstairs from the main concourse).\nDoors: 1:00 PM\nStart Bouts 5 & 6: 1:30 PM\n Bouts 7 & 8: 3:30 PM\nEnd: 5:00 PM \nEvery team in Hullabaloo will perform in one bout this afternoon\, either the first or second slate of prelims. All teams and audience members are encouraged to attend the entire evening\, (especially Hullabaloo Finals at 8:00 PM!) \nThe poems will be judged by five random members of the audience who are not directly affiliated with any of the poets or schools. They will give each poem a score between 0 and 10. We will drop the high and low scores\, and each poem will receive a total score out of 30. Each bout has four rounds (three rounds of solo poems and a mandatory group piece round) so the highest possible team score is 120. \nBout Schedule: TBA \nOpen to the general public. All Ages. General seating. Seating cannot be reserved in advance. \nAccessibility info \nThe VPL Central Branch has elevators to reach the downstairs rooms where the Hullabaloo events are being held. There are wheelchair accessible bathrooms. For more details\, refer to their list of facilities.

SUMMARY:Hullabaloo Finals feat. Moe Clark
DESCRIPTION:The 8th annual HULLABALOO FINALS NIGHT will determine which school has the best poetic chops in all of British Columbia. Moe Clark will start the evening with a feature set of her award-winning spoken word poetry. Then the top four teams from the preliminary bouts will face off against each other with the 2018 Hullabaloo team championship (and the Billy Sharkspeare Trophy) at stake! \nAlice MacKay Room.\nDoors: 7:00 PM\nStart: 8:00 PM\nEnd: 10:30 PM \nAbout the feature: Métis multidisciplinary artist Moe Clark is a nomadic songbird with wings woven from circle singing and spoken word. Originally from Treaty 7\, she’s called Tio’ti:ke (Montreal) home for nearly a decade. Moe fuses together vocal improvisation with multilingual lyricism to create meaning that is rooted in personal legacy and ancestral memory. She facilitates creative workshops in communities with a basis for deepening embodiment and awareness with personal and collective expression. Her work as an artistic producer stems from the desire to find intersections for collaboration: intercultural\, intergenerational and interdisciplinary in nature. In 2016\, she launched nistamîkwan: a transformational arts organization with an emphasis on\neducation and performance. \nIn collaboration with Katia Makdissi-Warren\, Moe co-directs Transcestral: a musical exchange between Indigenous and Sufi musical traditions. Following themes of trance as transformation\, they connect in a semi-improvised exchange of music\, dance and visual projections. In 2013 she directed the 10th Annual Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in Montreal\, highlighting Indigenous languages and in 2014 she was awarded Poet of Honour. Together with Cheryl L’Hirondelle and Joseph Naytowhow\, their nêhiyawêwin lullaby “nitahkôtân” won best music video at ImagiNative Film Festival in 2015. Moe has two albums of music\, a bilingual book of poetry and\nmultiple performance videos. Her work has been featured around the world at the Lincoln Centre (US)\, Queensland Poetry Festival (AU)\, Maelstrom Poetry Festival (BE) and Planet IndigenUs festival (CA)\, among others. Moe has trained with Rhiannon (“All the Way In” Vocal Improvisation master training\, 2013/15)\, Pura Fé (Banff Centre residency) and Charles Koroneho (Grief & Lamentation Ritual Performance\, Studio 303\, MTL) among others. As a public speaker she is a sought-after presenter with feature talks at TedXMontreal (May 2012) and the Olympic Summer Games in London\, U.K. (July 2012). \nOpen to the general public. All Ages. General seating. Seating cannot be reserved in advance. \nAccessibility info: \nThe VPL Central Branch has elevators to reach the downstairs rooms where the Hullabaloo events are being held. There are wheelchair accessible bathrooms. For more details\, refer to their list of facilities.
