SUMMARY:Love Letters for an Aching World
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nHumans are capable of simultaneously holding both the love and the mess — how can we write to honour this duality? \nThis workshop offers space to explore writing as an act of love and to consider what it is to be human in a profoundly difficult yet terribly beautiful world. Together we will reflect\, write\, listen and discuss in a mutually respectful and collaborative atmosphere*. \nPoetry is a way of reaching towards each other; of closing the spaces between us and this work can be how we imagine a way forward\, how we birth new worlds. \nPlease come prepared with an open mind\, something to write with and water or any refreshments you need to be comfortable. \n*This workshop is a consent-focused space and participants can engage at whatever level is comfortable for them. \nAccessibity \nVancouver Poetry House events take place on the ancestral territories of the Xʷməθkʷəy̓əm\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh\, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh First Nations\, whose lands were never sold\, ceded\, or relinquished\,—lands that were taken. Vancouver Poetry House supports the resurgence of Indigenous culture and the work of Indigenous poets.

SUMMARY:How to Fnck up a Poem
DESCRIPTION:Chances are it’s happened to you. You’re at the mic\, delivering your poem. Then something happens: maybe you stumble or say the wrong word\, maybe you make eye contact with someone and get momentarily distracted\, maybe an unexpected surge of emotion hits you\, maybe the words simply stop coming to you. Whatever the case\, the poem vanishes. Gone. And now you’re frozen on stage\, desperately trying to recall the poem while a roomful of people stare at you. They snap. They call out\, “You got this!” But you don’t got this… how do you rescue the moment? \nIn this workshop\, we’ll look at ways to do just that! We’ll consider the way instinctive fight\, flight or freeze responses kick in when a poem gets “dropped\,” we’ll look at “fnck ups” from the audiences’ perspective\, and we’ll explore ways to prepare for performance that improve our capacity to adapt in the moment. Drawing on training in improv and clown\, and 15+ years of experience fncking up poems on stages big and small\, Johnny will show how “fnck ups” create opportunities to make the audience love you even more! \nIMPORTANT: Some exercises in this workshop deliberately re-create the stress of “dropping” the poem in front of an “audience” of other workshop participants. Participants should be prepared with a short poem or segment of a poem (approx 30 seconds) to share with other participants to learn and repeat in front of the group. DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nDoors open at 6 pm for live and online audience \nPoets will be paired up via random draw and compete head-to-head. This will be a double knockout competition. The poets competing will be the 12 poets who lost in the First Preliminary Night. The top 6 poets who survive the first round\, will compete against the 6 poets who were knocked out in the final round of the First Preliminary Night. This will determine the top 6 poets. Both rounds will be 3 minutes long.  \nJeudi 25 avril de 18h30 à 20h30 (heure du Pacifique) \nSalle SAGE | Billets 15 $ \nOuverture des portes à 18h pour le public en direct et en ligne \nLes poètes seront jumelés par tirage au sort et s’affronteront en tête-à-tête. Ce sera une compétition à double élimination directe. Les poètes en compétition seront les 12 poètes ayant perdu lors de la première soirée préliminaire. Les 6 meilleurs poètes qui ont survécu au premier tour affronteront les 6 poètes éliminés lors du tour final de la première soirée préliminaire. Cela déterminera les 6 meilleurs poètes.
