In between Christmas and New Year’s Eve can be a dead zone for many people. So if you’re feeling haggard and on low batteries come and recharge and reinvigorate at December’s youth poetry slam.

It’s open to poets 13-20 years of age. There are 2 rounds of competition with 12 poets in the first round and the top 5 (barring ties) in the second. No props or costumes or musical accompaniement may be used in your performance. You must write your own work and you do not have to memorize your poem.

If you are competing to make the 2016 youth slam team you must slam AT LEAST TWICE during the 2015/2016 season and you CANNOT be turning 21 BEFORE September 1st, 2016.

All styles of poetry is welcome.

We also have a poetry open mic and a featured performer. This month we are truly lucky to have Seattle’s Maya Hersh as our featured poet

“Maya Hersh is a three time member of the Seattle Poetry Slam team, and has competed at National Poetry Slam, Individual World Poetry Slam and Women of the World Poetry Slam. She was Seat tle Poetry Slam representative for Individual World Poetry Slam in 2012. Originally from the East coast, she left her home slam to find a place with more rainfall and less bagels. She has been published in Pangaia magazine, and featured on NPR and CBS. One time, she was stuck in a cave for 12 hours, but she has not written any poems about it yet.”

$4 for 18 and under. $6-$10 for 19 and up.

We acknowledge this event is taking place on unceded Coast Salish Territory. We also strive to be a trans friendly venue so do your part in making everyone feel welcome. It’s CASH ONLY at the door and be please be kind to our door VOLUNTEERS. They are simply enforcing fire code regs passed on to them from the venue in regards to capacity rules.

We look forward to seeing you there.
