Our top 8 scoring poets from the 2016/2017 youth slam season compete head to head in 3 rounds of poetry slam to determine who will be a part of this year’s team and who will be our 2017 Youth Slam Grand Slam Champion. We have some returning youth slam vets plus a number of new faces/voices from the year. It should be an exciting night. This will be an all ages event at the WISE Hall on 1882 Adanac Street.
We will also have a feature performance from 2016 Vancouver Poetry Slam team member, Spilious the Ridiculous One…Spillious (the Ridiculous One) is a Trans-feminine poetic creature from Vancouver Canada. They are sometimes loud, sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, and always brutally honest. They touch on what it is to be queer, Trans femme, a father and an educator all at the same time. Spillious is also a musician, father, high school music teacher, workshop facilitator and academic. The boring letters that would follow their name are M. Ed, B.Mus, They have been performing spoken word for over a decade and have been featured in venues all over Canada and in the US.
Doors at 7. Show at 8pm sharp.
We acknowledge this event is taking place on unceded Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Territories. We also strive to create trans friendly events and ask that you help us towards that goal. Cash only at the door. There is an ATM in the WISE Hall Lounge.
