Calling all poets of the nerd-like persuasion. This is your night to explain to the world your love of isotopes or Harry Potter or Star Trek or Dr. Who or Werewolves/Vampires/Ducks or Suduko or Quantum Physics or Comic Books or Grammar or anything you feel nerdy and obsessive about.

Two rounds of 3 minute nerd themed poems/songs. Instruments, props, and costumes allowed! Poets of all backgrounds are welcome to perform BUT your poem must be within the nerd subject matter. If you are truly confused or concerned about whether or not your poem fits then talk to Van Slam Slammaster, Duncan Shields to clarify.

It’s also been decided that costumes are welcomed whether you are in the audience or performing. There will be prizes for best costume. COSPLAY. Dress up!

$50 FIRST PLACE plus a grand prize! $25 TO BEST COSTUME plus a prize!

$6-$10 sliding scale. This is an all ages event.

Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.

Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.

Get there before 7PM if you want a seat or want to slam.
