The Vancouver Poetry House presents feature poet, Tanya Evanson.

Tanya Evanson is a Montreal poet, performer, producer, educator and director of Banff Centre Spoken Word. She has released three studio albums, six artist books of poetry, an award-winning videopoem and in 2013 received the Golden Beret Award and was Poet of Honour at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word.

Performance highlights include the Vancouver Writers Fest, Vancouver Folk Music Festival, Calgary Spoken Word Festival, Edmonton Poetry Festival, Ottawa International Writer’s Festival, Blue Met, Words Aloud, When Sisters Speak, Bowery Poetry Club, Verses, CBC and Canadian SLAM stages. A student of sufism and classically-trained semazen or whirling dervish since 2002, she tours internationally with Niyaz (Iran-U.S), Mercan Dede (Turkey), Rumi Canada and Vancouver Rumi Society.

This fall 2016, she will launch her fourth spoken word album “ZenShip” with performances in Canada, England, Scotland, Australia, Indonesia and surrounding cosmos.

As always, there will be an open mic and two-round poetry slam, (3 minutes ) where poets accumulate points to qualify for the Van Slam team.

Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.

Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.

Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm!
