The Vancouver Poetry Slam presents feature poet, Sonya Littlejohn.
Sonya Littlejohn is a Williams Lake based poet and language arts workshop facilitator with a passion for multiple forms of creative expression. Her first spoken word piece as a sacrifice for semi-finals at CFSW 2008 (Calgary) called “Sacrificial Poet”. Inanna Press published “Grey: a Biracial Poem” in Other Tongues: Mixed Race Women Speak Out (2010), an anthology of poetry about cultural identity edited by poet Andrea Thompson. Sonya went on to self-publish a chapbook of her own poems in the winter of 2011, learning of her best friend’s suicide the same day. She works with the Vancouver Poetry House’s Word Play Poetry in Schools and is inspired when sharing ideas with younger generations. In 2016, Sonya released an apocalypse-themed spoken word album, “Lemonade in January,” which is available for download on Bandcamp.
Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.
Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.
Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm.
