| $4 – $10

2015 starts our 8th year of hosting youth poetry slams at Cafe Deux Soleils. This will also be your second (2nd) to last chance to qualify for the youth slam playoffs on March 23rd at the WISE Hall.

That’s because to qualify you need to have competed at least twice during the youth slam season (July-February) and you cannot be turning 21 before September 2015.

To compete you need at least 2 poems that are not longer than 3 minutes in length. You must have written the poem you are performing. No props, no costumes, no musical accompaniment allowed in performance. If poets/poems go longer than 3 minutes and 10 second poets will be docked points off of their final score.

5 sets of judges not related to or friends with the performing poets are chosen from the audience each week.

Sign up starts at 7pm. The show begins at 8 o’clock.

$4 for 18 and under. $6-$10 sliding scale for 19 and up.

We have a poetry open mic, a featured performer and the poetry slam. This month’s feature is our 2014 Youth Slam Grand Slam Champion, Sebastien Wen

“Sebastien Wen is the 2013 UBC Slam Champion, the 2014 Vancouver Youth Slam Champion and the 2014 Canadian Underground Youth Slam Champion. His work has appeared in Arc, Vallum, The Dalhousie Review and others. Mostly he’s just a robot searching for sparks.”

Please arrive early for a good seat and to sign up. Please treat our volunteer door staff with kindness and respect. Cash only at the door. We acknowledge that our shows are taking place on unceded First Nation’s Territory. We also strive to be a trans friendly venue. Single use non gender specific washrooms are available to use.
