Vancouver Poetry House presents…

The fun continues Monday nights at Van Slam with weekly feature poet, Sean O’Gorman telling it like it is but softening the blow with those beautifully arranged words and sentences we call poetry. A self professed“heartbreak poet” his performance may leave you slightly shaken and stirred (but in all the good ways).

“Have you ever felt like you just left yourself behind somewhere, and you didn’t even notice the final notice on your door. Maybe this is a poem for us, for our organs, intestines and guts, where i can open myself up, not afraid of what you’ll see…”

Sean O’Gorman is an international performer of spoken word and has competed in national poetry slams multiple times. His work teeters between the brightness of possibility and the shadows of self doubt. His style is extremely personal and this is why he is able to connect with other people, putting to words what is too often never spoken. This year’s tour is to promote his fifth collection of poetry Issues With Etiquette, it’s not spoken word, it’s not page poetry, it’s something caught between, still waiting to be shared and understood.

As always, there will be an open mic and two-round poetry slam, (3 min) where poets accumulate points to qualify for the Van Slam team. The judges can’t pick favorites, but you can. Show up, pick your Gladiator, and cheer them on!

Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.

Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.

Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm.

Doors open: 7pm, Show starts: 8pm
