The Vancouver Poetry House presents feature poet, Reema.

Reema is a Toronto based human and a Vancouver based poet.

She was recently asked when she started calling herself a poet, and she realized that it was when she started to draw creative inspiration from depression. Honest, bold, and whimsical, she writes about mental illness, love, and her social experience.

Reema is pleased to present her first chapbook, Earth: A Journey in Depression. It features not only poems, but the Google Earth images that inspired them. She will be reading some pieces from this book, as well as other pieces about her experience with mental illness.

Reema would like to thank both the UBC and Vancouver Poetry Slams for encouraging her to write again, to perform her work, and welcoming both her and her work with open arms. Vancouver Poetry Slam, especially: She could not have started writing poetry again without you.

We are in our three-round summer season. A two-minute round of 12 poets, a one-minute round of 6 poets, and then a four-minute round of 3 poets. Cut from below, clean slate each round. Let the summer season begin!

Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.

Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.

Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm!
