The Vancouver Poetry Slam presents feature poet, Nasra Adem.
Nasra Adem is among Edmonton’s most beloved emerging artists; her sincerity, authenticity, passion and wisdom is ever-apparent in her artistic practice. She occupies a unique space within the local and national arts communities as an impressive multi-disciplinary performer. Nasra is a true artist at heart, and has trained formally as a dancer, actress and vocalist, in addition to being a spoken word artist. In 2015, she completed her formal studies in the musical theatre program at Grant MacEwan University, where her stage presence, musicality and charisma made her a stand-out in the school’s production of Big Fish, among others. As a spoken word performer, Nasra has had the good fortune to share her personal narratives on stages all over her home city of Edmonton. In 2014, she was crowned the city’s slam champion. She has performed her work at YouthCanSlam—Canada’s national youth poetry festival—- in addition to other prestigious events such as the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, NextFest and The Edmonton Poetry Festival. She is an artist of precocious talent, intellect and passion whose creative contributions have warmed the hearts of audiences in many of Canada’s major cities. As a woman who is truly devoted to creative and spiritual authenticity, Nasra is excited to continue to use her artistic practice as a way of connecting with people, experiences, and herself.
During the Winter Season (from September–March), the slam format consists of two rounds of 3-minute poems.
Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.
Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.
Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm.
