The Vancouver Poetry House presents feature poet, Matt J Loeb.
Hailing from Windsor, Ontario, where in 2015 he founded the Windsor Poetry Slam. Matt Loeb is a Spoken Word artist who’s poetry ranges from candid honesty to biting satire. Active in the Vancouver Poetry Slam since he burst on stage sputtering pure nonsense in August 2013. A regular host and competitor Matt was a finalist at the 2014 Canadian Individual Poetry Slam. He later went on to make the last minute “Wild Card” team at the 2014 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. This team dubbed “The Wild Cats” made it to the Semi-Finals.
A prolific writer Matt has performed almost 100 different poems in slam poetry competitions making him one of only a few poets in North America to achieve this. He has published two spoken word albums “In the Duck” and “Enough Has Happened”. He writes the webcomic Brain Thought Word Say with long time artistic collaborator Ryan “Lunchbox” Marshal and his nerd themed poetry has also been featured on popular sci-fi blog i09.
As a youth, Matt trained in Shakespearian acting at the Stratford Festival Theatre where he learned first hand the benefits of arts education for young people. Matt takes this passion into schools and workshops as a proud member of the Vancouver Poetry House’s Wordplay program.
This is the start of the three-round summer season. A two-minute round of 12 poets, a one-minute round of 6 poets, and then a four-minute round of 3 poets. Cut from below, clean slate each round. Let the summer season begin!
Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.
Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.
Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm!
