The Vancouver Poetry House presents feature poet, Lucia Misch.
Born and raised at an astronomical observatory in California, Lucia Misch is a spoken word poet with a decade of writing, performing, and teaching under her belt.
After getting her start as a champion youth poet in the Bay Area, she became active in the Vancouver spoken word community, was part of the Vancouver Poetry Slam team (2010), and placed second at the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam (2011). Lucia has toured Canada and the US, performing both on her own and in collaboration with other artists, and presented her work at events such as the Vancouver Fringe Festival (2015), The Vancouver Writers Festival (2015), and Campbell River’s Words on the Water Festival (2016). Her poetry has been anthologized and published online. Sometimes witty, sometimes haunting, always thoughtful, Lucia’s writing is driven by the realization that just about everything in this world is funny cause it’s true, and sad cause it’s true.
A veteran arts educator, Lucia facilitates spoken word workshops as a member of WordPlay Poetry in Schools, has been an ArtStarts Poet in Residence (2015), a Vancouver Writer’s Festival Poet in Residence (2016), and a guest teacher at Media Poetry Studios, a camp that encourages girls to explore their voices through writing and film making.
We are in our three-round summer season. A two-minute round of 12 poets, a one-minute round of 6 poets, and then a four-minute round of 3 poets. Cut from below, clean slate each round. Let the summer season begin!
Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.
Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.
Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm!
