The Vancouver Poetry House introduces Lindi Nolte.
Lindi Nolte is a Vancouver-based spoken word artist, world traveller, story-teller and nature enthusiast. She was born and raised in Rustenburg, South Africa and immigrated to Canada with her family at age 10. Although Lindi loves the English language, Afrikaans is her mother tongue. After graduating from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology, Lindi moved back to Vancouver to pursue a career in performing arts. She was first seduced by spoken word at Café Deux Soleil in 2013. After her first night at a poetry slam she wrote this of the experience: “it was like discovering the world had unicorns, and all the unicorns had a secret language and a secret club.” Lindi is honoured to now be a part of the club and to spread the language of art and poetry. She is excited to attend UBC in September for the Bachelor of Education program. Wherever she goes, she goes with all her heart.
There will be an open mic and three-round poetry slam: 2 min, 1 minute and 4 minute rounds where poets accumulate points to qualify for the Vancouver Individual Poetry Slam championships.
Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.
Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.
Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm.
