We acknowledge this event will be taking place on the unceded territories of the Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.
This will be our “last chance slam” for poets who have not yet qualified for the youth slam playoffs in March. Poets still needing to slam twice or earn more points to qualify will be given priority to sign up. Also anyone who has not slammed yet but want to make playoffs can compete and if they win then they’re in.
We will also have a feature performance by former youth slam regular and now professional spoken word artist, actor and motivational speak Hamza “Relevant” Fouad
“Hamza Fouad “Relevant” is an actor/ spoken word artist with a WHOLE lot to say… Starting his spoken word journey in Vancouver, he has featured at poetry slams across Canada and some parts of the United States. He’s been a member of the 2011/2012 Toronto Poetry Slam Team, opened for such artists as K’naan at the ACC and has read his unique style of poetry on Canadian radio. Hamza has worked as a motivational speaker for the charity “Free the Children, spreading the message of “you can do whatever the f**k you want with your life”, to thousands of elementary and high school students, as well as introduced the game of “NINJA” to the entire Toronto district school board.
His first experience with spoken word poetry happened over 12 years ago at a Vancouver Youth Slam, and he looks forward to hitting the stage this time as a fully grown Man Child.”
