Vancouver poetry house presents feature poet, Julie Peters.

Julie (JC) Peters is a writer, teacher, yoga studio owner, workshop facilitator, feminist, and wine drinker who was once called The George Carlin of Yoga by fellow poet Chris Gilpin because she has a distaste for rainbows and flowers. She has an MA in Canadian Poetry, which sent her down a rabbit hole which had her writing essays about her jealous, passionate relationship with Steve McCaffery’s academic essays and the sadomasochism of George Elliott Clarke’s plays. She has represented Vancouver twice at the Women of the World Poetry Slam, and was a part of the 2012 Vancouver Poetry Slam Team. She is president of the Vancouver Poetry House Board, and co-founded the East Van Poetry Salon with Chris Gilpin. Despite all that, she mostly writes poems about flowers. But, like, mean flowers. No rainbows.

As always, there will be an open mic and two-round poetry slam, (3 min) where poets accumulate points to qualify for the Van Slam team.

Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.

Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.

Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm.
