Our new youth slam season is underway and poets are hitting the stage and torching the mic with their words trying to make it into the Youth Team Playoffs next March.
The age limit to compete is 13-20 years of age. To make the team YOU CANNOT be turning 21 before September 1st 2016.
There are 2 rounds of competition. 3 minute time limit in each round. No props, costumes, musical accompaniment allowed in your performance. No cover poems either. First time poets are encouraged to attend.
Besides the poetry slam we will have a feature performance from Joshua Scribe Watkis
“Armed with an arsenal of pain, passion and a pen, Scribe is a vivid storyteller through the arts of Hip-Hop & Spoken Word. His sharplyricism and bold presence give his audience a clear picture of the world through his eyes when he takes the stage. The young Toronto artist is one third of the Spoken Word collective ‘The Uncharted’, a budding Arts Educator/Youth Mentor and is probably known best for his fascinating ability to burst into full song without any kind of warning. While performing for humble crowds of 20 to upwards of 1000, the Emcee/Poet brings the same electric vibe to every show. Reminiscent of his influences Kendrick Lamar and Lecrae, Scribe always leaves the place with more energy than when he stepped in. ”
Sign up at 7pm. Show at 8. $4 for 18 and under. $6-$10 for 19 and up.
