Brendan McLeod is the author of a novel, a play, and a couple of monologues. He’s the founder of The Fugitives, a folk group signed to Light Organ Records, that tours internationally and have been nominated for multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards and a Western Canadian Music Award. Way back in 2004 (Jesus) he was the Canadian SLAM champ and world runner up. He was the 2012 Poet of Honor at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word and the 2015 Poet of Honour at the Victoria Spoken Word Festival. He’s performing his monologue “Brain” at the 2015 Vancouver Fringe from Sept. 9-20. Photo credit: Mike Savage.

There will be an open mic and three-round poetry slam: 2 min, 1 minute and 4 minute rounds where poets accumulate points to qualify for the Vancouver Individual Poetry Slam championships.

Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.

Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.

Get there early if you want a seat or want to slam. Before 7pm.
