Vancouver Poetry House presents…
The fun continues Monday nights at Van Slam with April Ranger ushering us into Fall. Her warm words are sure to get your blood flowing and send you home with dreams of comfy over-sized sweaters. What better way to kick off the leaves hitting the ground than an evening of earthy ear delights?
“Praise for long dark nights, sightless shrouds, and how despite this swift grip coming for all of us, we still teach ourselves to make our own light” – Last Day On Earth
April Ranger is a poet, playwright and performer. A three-time member of Boston Cantab’s National Poetry Slam team and 2008 NPS finalist, April has toured extensively across the Unites States. Her work has appeared in several publications, including Muzzle Magazine, apt, and the anthology Courage: Daring Poems for Gutsy Girls (Writebloody, 2014.) She grew up in Maine and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
As always, there will be an open mic and two-round poetry slam, (3 min) where poets accumulate points to qualify for the Van Slam team. If you enjoy your poetry with a little side of sport, you’ll probably (definitely) enjoy this event.
Cafe Deux Soleils and the Van Slam strive to be a trans friendly place and a hate speech free zone. Help us with that. We also acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded First Nations Territory.
Also, be kind to our VOLUNTEER door staff. They have to follow BC Liquor Board Rules and once we are sold out we can’t let anyone in unless someone leaves. You cannot save seats for people in line. Let them know if you are leaving. Also no ATM at the door, it’s cash ONLY.
Doors open: 7pm, Show starts: 8pm
