Word Camp Applications Open for Artists Aged 18 to 24!

Have you found yourself looking at the lineup for Word Camp and feeling sad about being just little too old to apply?

Well, you’re in luck!

Word Camp applications closed on Saturday evening.  Unfortunately we didn’t receive enough applicants to run our program as planned.  So we’ve decided upon a change of course that many of you who previously couldn’t apply will love: we’re opening applications for 18- to 24-year-old artists!  We’ll be accepting applications until MONDAY, JUNE 4TH!

Is this the moment you’ve been waiting for? APPLY NOW!

Is this the first time you’ve heard of Word Camp?  Well, here’s a bit of info for you:

Word Camp: Youth Slam Intensive is a one of a kind program available to youth from across Canada.  Over the course of four days (and one night), the intensive ensemble take 20 hours of workshops from a world-class lineup of teaching artists at the beautiful Jim Green House Studio in East Vancouver. Ensemble members also perform in two showcases at the Roundhouse Performance Centre.

Who should apply?

Any youth interested in honing their poetic/lyrical/storytelling craft!  Although Word Camp focuses on spoken word and written poetry, we’re open to any young artists interested in an intense week of creative arts practice.  And it will be an intense week: Word Camp promises to be a TON of fun, but be ready to grind those pencils down to stubs and sleep when it’s all done!

Who are our world-class teaching artists?

Tanya Evanson (Montreal, QC)
Mary Pinkoski (Edmonton, AB, pictured)
Jamaal Jackson Rogers aka. Just Jamaal the Poet (Ottawa, ON)
Ronnie Dean Harris aka Ostwelve (Vancouver, BC)
Kai Cheng Thom (Toronto, ON)
Brad Gibson (Vancouver, BC)

How much does it cost?

Registration for accepted applicants costs $200 to $250 sliding scale.  Registration and/or travel costs a barrier to your participation?  We’re doing our best to make this program available to everyone!  Our aim is to fundraise enough to provide subsidies to registration and/or travel as needed.

Vancouver Poetry House is accepting tax-deductible donations via Canada Helps.  Donors can make their donation, and leave a note saying, “Word Camp.”  Donations will then be used to subsidise registration and/or travel costs for participants as needed.
