Van Slam Family Minutes
January 31st, 2010

Duncan Shields is chairing the first part of the meeting while Sean's
slam master election is being voted on. The agenda was also
unanimously passed.
Sean McGarragle is re-elected as local slam master for another 2 years.

RC Weslowski proposes that all Youth Slam proceeds to be put into the Youth Slam account instead of half to Youth Slam, and Half to Van Slam. A 1 year trial period to see if this structure is financially viable. The motion is presented, voted on and carries with a visible majority.
Decision to purchase a video camera specifically for the poetry slam to allow filming of every event. The motion is presented, voted on and carries with a visible majority.
"Tournaments Expenditures Projection" will be used instead of
"budget 2010". Voting to spend money to send tournament representatives to said tournaments, if the Van Slam can afford it. The motion is presented, voted on and carries with a visible majority.
"Rookie of the year" award to new poets in the community who have never performed on stage before.
After brief discussion an Awards committee is established to select which award(s) are to be presented. Committee members: Daniel, Martin, Trevor, Aedan, Adrienne.
Discussion to be held on the Vancouver Poetry House forum for three awards to be presented during the next meeting that would then be put into place for next season.
Chris puts forth a Motion to have no repeat of finals poems in consecutive years, under punishment of disqualification. Poems you did last year, you cannot do this year, active immediately for current finals. RC explains that this was a rule but that it was undocumented and thus we are merely documenting something that has been around for a while. Motion voted on and carries.
Chris Gilpin will coordinate and print programs for the Van Slam Finals.
Nora and Duncan will design the program.
Aedan will coordinate the Van Slam CD, with Trevor mixing it.
Vancouver poetry house programs will dedicate a portion of their revenue to pay for accounting costs. The Van Slam family votes to pay a proportional amount of revenue towards said Vancouver Poetry House accounting costs. Motion is voted on and carries.
Motion to make a lot of noise for how good of a job Sean is doing.

Steve Miller puts forth the motion to have a mandatory coach for the poetry slam team, providing
the financial situation allows it. Motion is voted on and carries.
