Here is my piece called "the Love Affair".  I would appreciate any criticism and your feedback.

I hope you enjoy

The Love Affair

It's been going on far too long
I need to get it off my chest
And confess
Tell someone
ANYONE!

You see... My name is Ryan and I'm having an affair.

I know it's wrong.  But you don't understand... this is true love!
I know I sound like a hopeless romantic.  I guess sometimes I am.

But mostly it's the adventure I crave.
It's my own science fiction fantasy
Come to life & I'm caught in her Matrix.

Each night we'll hop into bed together,
And as I run my fingers down her spine,
We'll pick up where we left off the night before.

I know other people like to do it differently.
Like on the couch or under a tree in the park.
I even heard of some people like doing it on the bus!!

That's just a little to impersonal for me.
The way her words can set me off
I can't focus on anything else.

Sometimes it feels like I'm on drugs.
Cuz once we get into it I can't put her down.
I just want to keep going... all the way... until the end.

It hasn't always been this way you know.
It used to seem like too much effort for so little reward.
To me, it was just something old people did when they were bored.

Eventually I was even a little afraid to try it.
I was intimitated by their size & shape.
Not to mention the popular ones.

Besides what if I didn't do it right? Or was too slow?
From what I learnt during class in high school,
It all seemed so cold & clinical.

Then I saw one that caught my attention.
It was probably her shiny green jacket.
Plus I could see she was stacked.

When we got alone it was ... epic!
Over & over I delved into her volumes,
Leaving my mark in a different place each time.

I would turn her, flip her, and fold her.
Even as her spine creaked I refused to let go.
The rough yet soft feel of her between my fingers

Now every few weeks I have another one in bed.
A new story, a new chapter, a new page
Always an adventure.

It might seem wrong to you,
To be so trivial with my heart,
But nothing you can say,
Will make me stop!

I'll never give up my love affair with books

Hi, Ryan

Since this is about your love affair with books I would really like to see you talk about some of the books that have wooed you over the years.  I'd love to hear why they swept you off your feet.

And has the love affair always been mutual.  Were there books you wanted to read and enjoy but in the end just couldn't stand?  Was the love affair unrequited?

You could take the metaphor even deepper...perhaps the one night stand type of book...Dean Koontz or John Grisham and so on.

And I would also rather see a different reference than The Matrix.  That seems to be a frequent movie that's pointed too.  Unless it really is something that stands out for you I suggest finding some movie reference that is specifically you.  It's a love affair after all.

Excellent idea though and nicely put together.

Hi RC,

Actually the one with the "shiny green jacket" was the first book that really caught my attention.  It was (at the time) the most current collection of Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series.  As I said in the poem, I didn't always like reading books.  It was just something boring I had to do for English class.  I guess the closest to unreqited would be trying to reread Stephen King novels years later.  I tried rereading the Green Mile seires a few months ago and didn't get past the first book because it was overflowing with judgement and prejudice.

I don't think I could dig much deeper without writing a part II since I find I'm coming close to 3 minutes as it is.  Plus, I like how the piece can hve you thinking it quite literal until the last few lines.  I do like your idea about The Matrix reference.  I put it in there because it is one my favourite science fiction movies.  But since it's a love affair with books it would be best if I at least picked a sci-fi book made into a movie.  I don't want to let the book metaphor out of the bag too early.
