CFSW 2009 Update
« on: November 12, 2009, 11:45:38 AM »
Just wanted to mention that I'm updating CFSW in snippets on my facebook and when I get a chance here as well. After the first two nights we have a Last Chance or Wilcard team made up of Truth Is, Made Wade, Magpie Ulysess and Zaccheus Jackson and...after the first night of team competitions we have...

Vancouver holding down a 1 (first place in their bout of death with Ottawa, Calgary and the Wild Card team)
Wild Card holding down a 2

and in the late bout we have soon to be Vancouverite Chris Masson's Montreal team took the 1...and the erotica show...ten thousand times better than NPS. And I've got a ton of video that once I figure it out I'll put it up.

Just to follow up on this...

After a furious 3rd and 4th round rally we finished second in our other preliminary bout. Saskatoon and London were amazingly strong, but it was Ottawa that lit up the room the whole night and got the one. This means in all likelihood Vancouver will make the finals stage. Ottawa still has a shot to get there as well.

In the other bout that night, Victoria won and Toronto placed second, followed by Halifax and Winnipeg.

Finals night – tonight! – will be Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal, and Slaughterhouse 4 (the Wild Card team, which is half-Vancouver).

Go poetry!

Final results aside, it was nice that Van, O-Town and Wild Card all got into the finals after getting the nasty bout 1 'bout of death'

Absolutely, Rusty. I think it's solid proof that the system of preliminary bouts works well. Even when all the top teams fall into a bout of death by random chance, the best are still given enough chances to show their stuff, and make Finals Night together.

It was a true pleasure to see all the poetry Ottawa brought to the stage. They definitely earned the 2009 championship. Bravo!

btw, if others are reading this, and feel out of the loop, the final results were: first place, Ottawa; second place, Vancouver; third place, Montreal; and fourth, Slaughterhouse 4.

Now I just have to figure out a way to get to the Capital Slam in 2010...

A lot of people were saying this was the best CFSW yet and I have to agree.  A lot fo things came together and I have a feeling will keep coming together in future festivals.

We're able to take the best of what works and amalgamate them into each successive year.  Both organizationally and poetically.

Ottawa's team TOTALLY and COMPLETELY deserved their 1st place finish.  Well done all around.  It will be great to see the festival back in Ottawa for 2010.

It was an honour to share the stage with the other teams, the poets of honour and the showcase poets and the sacrifice.  And those hosts too!

Thanks R.C.

I think so too... which would sound more like bragging if I was one of the guys who won that night, instead of the fifth Beatle. :)

In fact, I wonder how many people at the show were wondering what the big guy with the beard was doing on the stage with the winning team. :)

Everybody was so good. I was reallt proud of the Lanark folks proving that they were more than just... whatever. They did really well in their second bout. A solid '2'.

Now I am enjoying the rest of my Victoria vacation before going back to Ottawa to get to work on CFSW 2010...

Perhaps an aptly timed 7 Dollar Bill tour?  Big congrats to all the teams who participated.  I've been reading many updates on Facebook.  This morning I even saw a few videos posted by Ritallin.

It certainly sounds like Ottawa was the definite winner.  Kudos to Van Slam & Slaughterhouse 4 for respresenting in the finals.  I'm sure you can understand why I was pulling more for Slaughterhouse 4 though!
