Ok, we had the Last Chance Slam and the 2 top finishers were Tristan DePlume and Tessa. Sean is IN, which means the team playoffs 16 competitors are:

1. Duncan Shields
2. Antonette
3. Tristan DePlume
4. RC Weslowski
5. The Svelte Ms. Spelt
6. Fernando Raguero
7. Fatou Wourie
8. Johnny MacRae
9. Sasha Langford
10. Lucia Misch
11. Steve Miller
12. Clint "Father Goose" Wilson
13. Chris Masson
14. Daniel Mark Patterson
15. Sean McGarragle
16. Tessa

I'm not sure who performs on March 29th and who performs on April 6th. That's something that Sean has worked out and will post shortly.

Good luck to all the poets!

Antonette decided not to participate in playoffs, which required some adjustments of the semi-final bouts. Here's who is participating:

Performing and reading on March 29th will be

Duncan Shields
The Svelte Ms. Spelt
Sasha Langford
Johnny MacRae
Steve Miller
Chris Masson
Sean McGarragle
Rob Hoover

Performing and reading on the April 5th will be

RC. Weslowski
Fernando Raguero
Lucia Misch
Fatou Wourie
Clint "Father Goose" Wilson
Daniel Mark Patterson
Tristan DePlume
Tessa Bourguignon

The top 4 poets from each semi-final will go on to compete in Finals Night on April 19th at the Rio Theatre.

Good luck to all the poets!

So... how did the first semis go? Who is moving on to the finals?

Our semi-finals aren't for another month so I have to live vacariously through you folks!

The electronic grapevine tells me that the poets moving on from last night's semi-final are: Lucia Misch, RC Weslowski, Fernando Raguero, and Daniel Mark Patterson.

That means the Elite Eight competing on Finals Night are:

    Chris Masson
    Daniel Mark Patterson
    Fernando Raguero
    Johnny MacRae
    Lucia Misch
    RC Weslowski
    Sasha Langford
    The Svelte Ms. Spelt

ATTENTION!!!!

Houston we have a problem.

If one of these eight fine poets wants to be able to adorn his or her midsection with the ever coveted championship belt then we have to find it!

Yes you heard me right.... so the story goes something like this.

Last year some time I got the belt back from current champ RC Weslowski so I could stamp his name on the 2009 section, which I did, then I immediately put it in my truck and brought it down to the very next event that I figured I'd run into Randy at. (either at the Deux Soleils or the Cottage Bistro, I'm not 100% sure as it was several months ago) But alas Randy did not attend that evening sooo I expressed my concern to somebody (I totally thought it was Sean McGarragle but he says no so now I am scratching my head) who said, "Not a problem, I will be seeing Randy over the next few days, so give it to me and I'll make sure he gets it."

Fast forward to last night when RC told me he never received it....yikes!

Now I feel like a heel but I GUARANTEE you it was someone trustworthy from the scene as I would not hand it to a homeless person and/or vagabond (unless they were a trusted poet in the scene) because BELIEVE ME I know how many hours it took me to make the damn thing.

So, Svelte? Zaccheus? Lisa Slater? Nora? Come on people, who did I hand the thing to? Scruff? Jessica? Sue? (Cormier or McIntyre)

I know it will turn up but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least a bit nervous.

Spread the word...I just KNOW it's sitting in someone's closet waiting to be found.

Thanks, Clint.

Okay, stop the manhunt.

Duncan Shields has the belt.

I just KNEW I gave it to someone trustworthy.

A load off me mind for sure.

Question... it is hard for me to tell, because you only list poeple who get points, but how many different poets compete for you folks in a season? ANy idea who the most you have had would be?

Rusty

I think Sean would have the final answer as he has all the score sheets from the year but with 12 poets each slam from Sept-March I'm going to guess that there are around 30 different people who have competed over the year.

Sometimes just once or maybe once or twice.  If you include the open mic it probably goes up to around 50 people over the course of the year.  50 different people.  There's probably 12-15 "regulars."

These are all guestimates.

I'll admit I am trying to find out for selfish reasons. :)

I want to know if we have the 'record'. We had 70 different people slam this season at CapSlam.

such nefarious motives, sir.

I must add that my guesses don't include our "alt slams" or youth slam.  It goes up considerably if you add them into the mix.

My guess would be as high as 50 or 60 as well.

Our 70 doesn't include open micers.... just slammers. We also estimate that about 20 people performed at Urban Legends who didn't also perform at CapSlam.

Ottawa has gone slam crazy! :)
