Hello everyone...

I just wanted to put it out there that I'm not planning on competing in either the WOW playoff or the team playoff this year.

Chris Tse won THREE CapSlams in a row, heads back to Van for the holidays and wins the Slam there?

It's crucial to understand that this year's season has a brand new qualifying system, one completely different from previous years. It is a points system. You can read about how it works here:
http://vancouverpoetryhouse.com/forum/smf/index.php/topic,792.msg2654.html

There are only THREE qualifying slams remaining for the team playoffs. They will be held (at Café Deux Soleils, 2096 Commercial Drive) on: February 1st, February 15th, March 1st. March 15th is the Last Chance Slam.

Qualifying for Vancouver's WOWps playoffs has ended for this year. The Grand Slam is on January 11th.

After the poet's name is the order that they performed in the first round, then their first round score. After that is the position they performed in the second round (if they made the cut) and their second round score, followed by their total score for the evening.

4 January 2010

Sac: Daniel Mark Patterson 26.8
Spillious (1) 26.2
Jeeves (2) 24.5
Jakob (3) 25.7
Duncan Shields (4) 28.1 + (5) 28.2 = 56.3 First! (16 points)
Sagal Suberman (5) 25.7
Steve Locke (6) 26.5
Julie Peters (7) 28.0 + (2) 27.1 = 55.1 Second! (9 points)
WD40 ( 8 ) 24.5
Duncan (9) 26.8 + (1) 26.9 = 53.7 Third! (4 points)
Marcella H. (10) 26.2
Brit (11) 27.5 + (4) 26.2 = 53.7 Third! (4 points)
Katrina (12) 27.6 + (3) 25.8 = 53.4 Fifth!
Eva Waldorf (13) 25.4

Lisa isn't competing so I suggest she be taken off of that list.

And when you get a sec can you remove any and all of the poets who aren't competing in the playoffs for the team...ie Charles Hamilton, Chris Tse and what not since that muddles up who is and isn't qualified and who might want to Last Chance Slam it.

mwuh!

People can always change their minds, and they should be able to change their minds right up to last chance.  Maybe we can do what we did last year, which is have a paragraph indicating who stated they would not participate in the playoffs.

I would probably fall in that category myself.  But a lot can change in a year, including availability for team practices, the rules of being on the team, etc.

RC, I hear ya. The reason I haven't done that yet is precisely for the reasons Shannon mentions. Poets tend to change their minds, fly in at the last moment, etc. So I'm erring on the side of being comprehensive.

However, just like last year, I will now start a "If the playoffs started today" ranking that takes into account the people who have indicated they cannot or will not compete. (Shannon, I'm taking you off the list for now, since you're leaning toward not participating. Of course, you can change your mind. Just let us know.)

So! taking into account poets that have said they are not interested in competing, or who were just visiting slammers from out of two, if the playoffs started today, these 14 poets would automatically be IN:

1. Duncan Shields 50
2. Antonette 37
3. RC Weslowski 32
4. Julie Peters 31
5. The Svelte Ms. Spelt 22
6. Fernando Raguero 20
7. Johnny MacRae 16
8. Bolko 9
9. Justin* 9
10. Daniel Mark Patterson 6
11. Steve Miller 6
12. Brit 4
13. Rob Hoover 4
14. CJ Leon 1 (55.3)

The next 12 poets automatically qualify to compete in the Last Chance Slam, of which the top two finishers qualify for the playoffs.

15. Sean McGarragle 1 (53.9)
16. Marcella 1 (52.9)
17. Kimothy 1 (52.7)

*not sure if Justin would compete in playoffs. I don't know him.

Thanks, Chris.

This is definitely more useful.  I just saw a few names from out of town poets and I couldn't figure out where everyone else fit in.

Merci.

I don't have the full scores from last night, but I do have the scores from the poets who made it to the second round, which are the only ones that count toward team playoff standings. So! Here they are:

1)      Fatou Wourie          51.4  (27.4 and a 24.0) 16 points!

2)      Chris Masson           51.2  (24.9 and a 26.3) 9 points!

3)      Steve Miller              51.1  (25.5 and a 25.6) 4 points!

4)      Tristan DePlume     49.2  (25.2 and a 24.0) 1 point!

5)      Johnny Macrae       44.5  (25.2 and a 19.3) he doesn't need anymore points!

Ola from San Miguel! Yes, they have the internets here. Nothing can stop our van slam standings from being updated in a timely manner. Woot it.

Last week's slam featured the return of the prodigal poet, Sasha Langford (last year's WOWps rep for Van Slam) who cleaned up, as per usual. Woot that as well.

It's crucial to understand that this year's season has a brand new qualifying system, one completely different from previous years. It is a points system. You can read about how it works here:
http://vancouverpoetryhouse.com/forum/smf/index.php/topic,792.msg2654.html

There is ONLY ONE qualifying slam remaining for the team playoffs (plus the Last Chance Slam). It will be held (at Café Deux Soleils, 2096 Commercial Drive) on March 1st. March 15th is the Last Chance Slam.

15 February 2010

For simplicity sake, I'm only reporting the scores from the second round, as these are the only scores that affect the standings.

1)      Sasha Langford          55.8  (26.1 and a 29.7) 16 points!

2)      Duncan Shields        53.4  (26.7 and a 26.7) 9 points!

3)      Sean McGarragle           50.8  (25.4 and a 25.4) 4 points!

4)      Julie Peters     50.6  (23.0 and a 27.6) 1 point!

5)     Elizabeth      47.9  (25.4 and 22.5)

What about Chris Tse and Magpie as far as maybes and for sures?

Also...if a poet has used up the 6 slamming slots for the season and they have not earned enough points prior to the last chance slam are they still allowed to slam in the last chance slam?

Magpie and Chris Tse can't unfortunately make the committments to the team...and yes, someone who's used their six can still compete in the Wild Card Slam...if they're in the top 12 or if there is an opening in the draw on Wild Card night.

Yes, and yes. To what Sean wrote.

Looking forward to seeing how things pan out in the next 2 open slams.

In case anyone is wondering "why bother?", there are real stakes. The members of the Van Slam team will receive all-expenses paid trips to Ottawa and Minneapolis-St.Paul to compete in CFSW and NPS, providing that Van Slam has the funds and they fulfill the conditions of the contract. So! get out there and slam!

Item of note...I talked to Justin on facebook chat tonight. He said that there is no way he could represent Vancouver as he lives in Victoria. He is planning on going all out to make Victoria team though. Therefore you can go ahead and take him off the maybe list.
