Round length at NPS
« on: August 22, 2009, 09:34:01 AM »
Hi everyone,

There has been a suggestion posted on the PSI Slammasters' Forum that would be a dramatic change in how we conduct the tournament, and likely the regular season for VanSlam.

From Amy Davis, who is a Chicago SM

"At our other two big events, we have 1-minute, 2-minute, 3-minute, and 4-minute rounds, but at NPS, we stick entirely with 3-minutes.  Why not make a change?  I think it would be a great challenge and a change to the strategy if we mixed it up a little."

This has taken the form of 1-4 minute rounds over the course of the evening, in an order that has yet to be determined.

I will weigh in a bit later with my thoughts, but I wanted to put it out there for discussion before I begin to lobby one way or the other... *grins*

I like Scott Woods' proposal that no changes to the NPS format can be proposed for the next two years. There's too much uncertainty around the existence of PSI and NPS as it is. Some stability and predictability is needed while they get back on track. Not sure if that proposal on the SM forums yet but he posted it on his LJ. I hope that Vancouver supports it.

The earliest that it would be implemented is 2011, even if it gets voted in (as far as I know).

I would also support Scott's motion that NPS be held in static form for two years.

Sounds like a reasonable course of action to me.  Seems a little cavalier at this point to start mixing things up, what with all the recent troubles.

I'd be curious about the length of anything round.
