Updates from NPS
« on: August 05, 2009, 03:11:37 PM »
I'm wired in to the twitter feed and the scores for NPS this year.
On the 1st night Van Slam had the night off-they go off tonight and I'll post as soon as the scores are up.
Last Night Toronto slammed and our Canadian brethren drew a 4 with a score over just over 101.
So you can be sure they brought the thunder-it's just that at NPS there are some tough bouts.
Sending massive love and big ups to Van Slam and TO.
Lotsa poetry to go-stay tuned.
"this is the law of the jungle-as old and as true as the sky.
every wolf that keeps it shall prosper-every wolf that does not must die
like the creeper the girdles the tree trunk,the law circles forward and back
the strength of the pack is the wolf and the strength of the wolf is the pack"

Team Toronto came 1st last night-puts them in 16th overall,they may slide out of the top 20 that advances to semis,as many teams have a bout still to play but huge up to them for coming hard and winning when they were up against it!
Seattle -our sister slam to the south-is in 9th overall after last night.
and....
Van Slam took 3rd last night with a bout to go.
a 2 or a 1 is what it's gonna take now.
But Toronto got a 1 in their second bout so hope is still alive and by alla ccounts I'm hearing outside of the scores-so is live poetry at this years NPS.
Go Salmon Slam teams.
more to come.

After four amazing semi-final bouts, the teams competing in the finals are:

    * San Francisco - The City Slam
    * St. Paul - Soapboxing
    * Albuquerque Poetry Slam
    * NYC - Nuyorican

The Group Piece Finals packed 10@2s, and spilled over into the next room. So many poets were spilling out, the police stopped by to ask us to keep the sidewalk clear, then ran inside to check out the poetry.
The winning team after three amazing rounds: Berkeley!

So-Hoo-rah for Team Berkely and keep the Bay Area Love going for Team SF-with our much loved friend of the Van Slam-Denise Jolly on it.

Last night was Underground Indies. Nora was one of 16 poets competing. It was a head-to-head match with the winner determined by audience noise. The winner won nearly $2000.

Nora won her first two bouts making it to the round of four. The other three competitors were J.W. Baz (IWPS finalist), Ed Mabrey (IWPS champion), and Rudy somethingorother. Nora went up against Rudy who was a metaphor machinegun and the the crowd chose Rudy. Baz beat Ed Mabrey. In the final Rudy beat Baz.

Making it to the third round was a huge accomplishment. The event was held in a tent outside the hotel. The poets had to yell to be heard. Nora really killed it. Vancouver should be very proud.
