Last night was the big brouhaha, the IWPS slamoff, or grand slam, or whatever you wish to call it. It was hot. And a bit muggy. And the sold out crowd was even more electric than usual.

Zaccheus Jackson defended his crown, and repeated as Vancouver's top individual performer. He will represent Vancouver in Berkeley at the Individual World Poetry Slam. And he will slay.

There were four rounds. The first round was one-minute poems, the second round was three-minute poems, the third round was four-minute poems, and the fourth round was two-minute poems. The two poets with the lowest cumulative scores were cut at the end of each round. So we started with ten contenders, and ended the night with only four poets on stage vying for the championship. After each poet's name is the position they performed in each round and their score.

Sac: Shannon Rayne (sorry, I don't have this score)
Sac: Chris Gilpin 27.2
Antonette (1) 22.7
Relevant (2) 24.6 + (2) 26.6 = 51.2
Zaccheus Jackson (3) 26.7 + (3) 28.5 + (4) 28.8 + (3) 29.8 = 113.8 Champion!
The Svelte Ms. Spelt (4) 24.9 + (6) 27.0 + (6) 27.9 = 79.8
Fernando Raguero (5) 25.0 + (1) 27.4 + (1) 27.3 = 79.7
Julie Peters (6) 26.9 + (5) 27.9 + (2) 27.4 +(2) 27.8 = 110.0 Fourth!
Johnny MacRae (7) 27.5 + (7) 28.4 + (3) 27.7 + (4) 29.5 = 113.1 Second!
Steve Miller (8 ) 23.7
Duncan Shields (9) 25.9 + (4) 27.3 + (5) 29.4 + (1)28.2 = 110.8 Third!
Joe McDonald (10) 23.8 + (8 ) 28.4 = 51.7

The regular season to qualify for team playoffs starts on September 21st. All poets should review the new points system posted in this forum, as qualifying for playoffs has changed dramatically from last year.
