Standings & Scores after August 3rd
« Reply #15 on: August 15, 2009, 12:11:11 PM »
While I was away, Duncan Shields won the slam!

After the poet's name is the order that they performed in the first round, then their first round score. After that is the position that they performed in the second round, then their second round score, and finally their total score for the evening. Scores in brackets are the original scores with their assessed time penalty (TP).

NB: These are only preliminary scores. The official scores and standings are kept by our slammaster, after they have checked and double checked all the math and adjusted any scores that may have incurred penalties.

NOTE: the Score Sheet is a bit cryptic this week, and I wasn't there, so I apologize if I don't transcribe some of these names correctly.

3 August 2009

Sac: Cotton 25.1
Rhea (1) 23.8
Kelsey Savage (2) (27.1 - 2.0) 25.1
Joe (3) 25.8
Jane Panic (4) 21.3
Sherri (5) 20.9
Duncan Shields (6) 27.9 + (2) 27.4 = 55.3 First!
Daniel Mark Patterson (7) 22.4
Ludwig (8 ) 27.0 + (5) 24.3 = 51.3 Fifth!
C.J. (9) 22.5
Amnesia Jane Smith (10) 26.1 + (4) 26.1 = 52.2 Fourth!
Relevant (11) (27.0 - 0.5) 26.5 + (28.3 - 1.0) 27.3 = 53.8 Second!
L. (12) 23.2
Pam (13) 24.0
WD40 (14) 26.4 + (1) 26.6 = 53.0 Third!

Updated Standings for the 2009 Van Slam Individual Slamoff
The top 10 poets will qualify for the IWPS Slamoff on September 7th

Firsts
Zaccheus Jackson 58.5
Relevant 58.0
Chris Tse 57.4
The Svelte Ms. Spelt 55.7
Joe McDonald 55.7
Duncan Shields 55.3

Seconds
Fernando Raguero 56.8
Steve Miller 56.8
Johnny MacRae 54.9

Thirds
Julie Peters 57.9
Antonette 56.1
David Kurbis 54.4
WD40 53.0

Only a poet's highest ranking performance is shown in the overall standings. So, for instance, if a poet places third one night and first another night, only the first place placing will show in the standings.

There are only TWO QUALIFYING SLAMS LEFT, August 17th & August 31st. If the Slamoff were tomorrow, the poets would qualify, in this order (Chris Tse goes back to school in Ottawa in the fall and has indicated that he can't participate). Poets in bold have clinched their spot, unbolded poets are still at risk to miss the slamoff:

1. Zaccheus Jackson
2. Relevant
3. The Svelte Ms. Spelt
4. Joe McDonald
5. Duncan Shields
6. Fernando Raguero
7. Steve Miller
8. Johnny MacRae
9. Julie Peters
10. Antonette

Sidenote: it's extremely unlikely that Fernando and Steve Miller will not be in. It would require two new firsts, and three new seconds with higher scores than them. How could this happen with only two bouts left? Well, it's technically possible that we could have a tie for second place in one bout. If that tied score was higher than 56.8, then there would be a chance that Vitamin F and Steve Miller would not qualify.

And taking a look at these standings,

where are all our fire-breathing lady poets at?

If the IWPS slamoff turns out to be a sausage party, that would be totally Salsbury.

Tried.   I asked because the site wasn't opening at the time.  I can see it now.

Question for the Fam: for those of us who were in Indie finals last year, is there and no-repeat rule? And if so, is there someone who knows what poems were performed? Cuz ya know, Van Slam, we pot heads, and I tend to forget the tedious minutia like 'What poems I did...." and stuff.

My bad?

There is not a no-repeat rule in effect this year, so your Van Slam-induced haze is not a problem. Just do the poems you want to do. And remember this time: there is a 2-minute round!

I don't have the official score sheet from the last IWPS qualifying slam, so I haven't updated the standings yet. The next slam on August 31st will be the last chance slam, ie your last chance to qualify for the IWPS slamoff on September 7th. A few second-place poets have been asking about what their situation is, whether they are in or out. I will try to clarify that question here, and I would welcome any input from our Slammasters or the Rules Committee.

Julie won the last slam, and The Svelte Ms. Spelt came in second. So the top ten currently qualified poets look like this.

1. Zaccheus Jackson
2. Relevant
3. The Svelte Ms. Spelt
4. Joe McDonald
5. Duncan Shields
6. Julie Peters
7. Fernando Raguero
7. Steve Miller
9. Johnny MacRae
10. Antonette

Bolded poets have first place finishes under their belts. They have clinched a spot in the IWPS slamoff. I expect that those who have clinched will be asked to step aside for the last chance slam. That means there will be a different first place finisher on August 31st. Fernando and Steve Miller have essentially clinched. The only way that they wouldn't make the IWPS slamoff is if there was a two-way or three-way tie for second place on Aug 31st with a score higher than 56.8. That is unlikely in the extreme, but conceivable. So I believe that these poets will be allowed to compete in the last chance slam.

That's my interpretation of the standings at this point. If I am missing something, please correct me.

For all poets who have qualified, the format of the slamoff should be required reading:

At the last chance slam, Antonette won, and Fernando came in second, so the standings have reshuffled, but the top ten coming in the last night turned out to by the ten who will go on to our IWPS Grand Slam.

Those competing poets are:

Zaccheus Jackson
Relevant
The Svelte Ms. Spelt
Joe McDonald
Duncan Shields
Julie Peters
Fernando Raguero
Steve Miller
Johnny MacRae
Antonette

Is it just me or does that sentence make no sense at all?  Not sure what you were trying to say.

And by the way, what a list of names!  Holy moses.  That's going to be an off-the-hook night on Monday.

Ah there is a missing word, "to". The top ten coming in to last night, turned out to be the top ten going on to our IWPS grand slam. In other words, the last chance slam didn't change anything, strangely enough.

*I don't have the score sheet for the night Julie won, but her score is irrelevant to the final status of the standings. The Svelte Ms. Spelt finished second that night, but he had already qualified with a first, so there is no second place finish to add into the mix.

Twas wondering if there was a 10sec grace period for each poem, or if it's 1/2/3/4 minute poems to the second?
