Trivia time: What's the world's largest slam?

If you guessed the America's National Poetry Slam, or France's the World Cup of Poetry, you guessed wrong.

The largest-attended poetry slam in the world is the Bay Area Youth Speaks Grand Slam. Over 500 young poets compete in weeks of poetry slams before the finalists are selected. Last year's Grand Slam was attended by 3000 people.

I WANT TO SEND OUR YOUTH SLAM TEAM THERE! I have heard such amazing things about that event. And, it's not terribly far. Maybe in 2010??

Weeks of poetry slams? Holy Horsehockey!!!! As far as I know the single biggest poetry slam regular event is Hawaii's once a month show. 800 attendees every month.

sean is right-the biggest slam is Hawaii.
it's a regular series that posts those numbers-every week-4 weeks a month-12 months a year.
as for biggest slam tourney?
they could quite possibly lay claim to that.

There is an interesting tv show called russel simmons presents brave new voices covering youth speaks. I just downloaded the first episode on itunes. It's free on the front page of the podcast section.

I think the main Hawaii slam is still just once a month.  I think there might also be a second slam started up on one of the smaller Islands.

Munich and surrounding environs host many large scale poetry slam and performance poetry events.
