Davie Village Slam Announcement
« on: July 15, 2010, 12:55:16 PM »
(Just passing this along as it was posted on Facebook)

From Aedan Saint

We at the Davie Village Poetry Slam have been VERY blessed to have some solid support by a loyal cadre of fans and poets in the Vancouver community and beyond.

Despite this, the Finals night was not as well attended as previous shows and we had only as many poets competing as we had slots on the team. We made the necessary adjustments to ensure a quality show for all those who attended and had a great show. In the final analysis, we've come to the consensus that in order to field a slam team that has earned their slots through competition and not simply acclamation, we need to try again.

To that end, we have decided to stage the Finals Night competition again to ensure a FULL roster of potential candidates and a DVS Team that has been selected through a proper slam that honours and preserves the integrity of the selection process.

All those who did showcase their talents at the last DVS Slam are talented performers and competitors able to take their place on any team via a full competition. Having consulting all of the competitors, they have ALL agreed to slam once again for those team slots so that whoever the DVS team may be they will be unquestionably a team that has earned their titles.

To this end, we have made the following decisions:

1) The Village Poetry Slam Team 2010 Finals will be re-staged. This will take place in the next six weeks.

2) The Village Poetry Slam will NOT be taking part in CFSW, IWPS or any other competition for the 2010 calendar year due to short time frames and financial concerns.

3) The Village Poetry Slam Organization has enlisted the help of an historically accomplished and trusted member of the Slam Community, the Svelte Ms. Spelt - Angus Adair, to assist us in restructuring the Slam and in taking on a leadership role which will assist us in relaunching the Slam in September. The prime focus will be to more fully integrate the Davie Village Slam into the cultural life of the Davie Village community.

Any concerns or suggestions can be addressed to either me or Angus moving forward in e-mail to keep the spirit of the Slam alive.

We look forward to having even MORE poets compete in both the re bout of Finals Night and in the months ahead. We regret we'll miss the party at CFSW - this year - but we feel it more important to ensure the long term viability of a slam in The Davie Village that is a vital part of that communities cultural life and solid venue for expression of it's diverse voices.

More details shortly..

Kind regards,

-A
