from our Slammaster Sean:
On July 19th, The Vancouver Poetry Slam is extremely proud to present the 2009 Canadian National Champions, The Recipe.
The Recipe is a supergroup of spoken word in Canada. After being crowned national champs in Nov. 2009, team members Ian Keteku, Poetic Speed, Open Secret and Brandon Wint formed The Recipe to keep their raw energy and mind-blowing collaborations going. Combined they have shared the stage with Amir Suliman, Saul Williams and brought the Governor General to the dance floor.
IAN KETEKU (Emcee E) is able to bring a wit and charm to his performances but also insightful content. He has performed all over North America, Europe and Africa and also is the recently crowned world champion of slam poetry.
KOMI OLAF (Poetic Speed) has now participated over 250 events and fundraisers and is a two-time member of the Ottawa Slam team. His poetry encourages introspection and the appreciation of other cultures and religions. He is deeply influenced by his African roots illustrated through his spoken word.
IKENNA ONYEGBULA (Open Secret) is a romantic at heart. His poetry alludes to some of the greats like Langston Hughes, Yeats, Whitman and others. He is also a three-time member of the Ottawa Slam team. Ikenna is presently working on an array of artistic projects, including a creative work of fiction entitled, Quietus.
BRANDON WINT is a gentle soul with a firery voice. Though methodical and soft, his words sink deep into audience members hearts, and minds. It is not rare to notice tears running down faces during his set. Brandon is not only a performer but a writer where his poetry is just as powerful on paper as it is on stage.
THE RECIPE consists of award winning, critically acclaimed poets. Members have performed their poetry across the globe and serve audiences an entertaining, insightful dose of poetic food for thought. Get ready to eat!
