http://larabozabalian.com/Lara Bozabalian has represented Toronto at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, the American National Poetry Slam, and the Individual World Poetry Slam Championships. Her poetry has been featured in journals, newspapers and magazines, and was recently released in the full length collection The Cartographer's Skin (Piquant Press, 2010). She is a founding member of the Toronto Poetry Project, and founded and runs Be Heard, a spoken word festival for high school students across southern Ontario.

A poetry slam is performance poetry competition where random judges chosen from the audience determine the winners on the night.
Rules include no props, no costumes, no musical instruments or background music, authors must read their own work.
3 minute 10 sec time limit.
2 rounds. Prizes for the top highest scoring poets and more.
