This month's featured performer is Lara Bozabalian from Toronto, Ontario

Lara Bozabalian has represented Toronto at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, the American National Poetry Slam, and the Individual World Poetry Slam Championships. Her poetry has been featured in journals, newspapers and magazines, and was recently released in the full length collection The Cartographer's Skin (Piquant Press, 2010). She is a founding member of the Toronto Poetry Project, and founded and runs Be Heard, a spoken word festival for high school students across southern Ontario.

And as per usual we will have an open mic open to all poets 13-22 years of age plus a poetry slam competition.

Poetry slam rules are--no props, no costumes, no musical instruments or pre recorded music to be used in performance and the work must be written by the poet performing.  There is also a 3 minute and 10 sec time limit.  You loose points once you go longer than 3:10.

Doors at 7pm.  Show starts around 8 o'clock.   $3 for 18 and under.  $5 for 19 and older.

It's a blast.  And now that summer is out you don't have to be at school for the next day.  Hooray.

It all happens at Cafe Deux Soleils on Commercial Drive: 2096 Commercial

If you've never heard Lara's work and are ready for some really elegant work I strongly urge you to check out this show.

She's quite captivating.

We had a sold out night at the Cafe for Lara's feature.  We had 11 people in the slam and 6 on the open mic.

Summer seems to be the right time for the Youth Slam.  No school the next day!

Our August feature is the acerbic and outlandish, Rob Gee.  Check it out for a night of laughter and weirdness!
