Wild Card Slam at CFSW 2010
« on: August 17, 2010, 05:41:50 AM »
From a recent update from Ritallin, Media Relations guys for CFSW 2010:

"The Vancouver Davie Village team has withdrawn from CFSW 2010 Ottawa, meaning that we will now be hosting a LAST CHANCE SLAM!

Basically, if you are not a member of one of the other 17 teams slamming in the national finals in Ottawa, you are eligible to put your name forward to participate in the LCS. The top four poets will form a Wildcard Team that will then compete against the others for the title of 2010 Canadian Slam Champions!

Soon there will be more information and details about how and when to register, what you will be expected to do if you are selected to perform, and other pertinent information.

To stay up to date, follow us on Twitter (@cfsw2010ottawa) or check back on the FB group page. More to come very soon!"

Yep... and I really hope we get some poets who aren't local. As much as I love me some Ottawa poets, we already have two teams... let's get some other poets up in here!

More info! Spread it far and wide!

As part of the 2010 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (CFSW 2010 Ottawa), we will be holding a Last Chance Slam (LCS) on Tuesday, October 12 at 1 p.m.  Please disseminate this information in your local networks to any poet who is potentially interested in travelling to Ottawa to compete in the LCS.

We are going to have an advanced registration process for the LCS that looks like this:

On Tuesday, August 31 we will accept submissions for entrance in the LCS.  To register, send an email to info@cfsw.ca with the subject line "Last Chance Slam Registrant" between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. EDT on August 31.  Entries improperly submitted will not be accepted.  A draw will then be held on September 1 for the 12 slots in the LCS, with a public announcement of the results to follow.

If you have any questions about the LCS or about the slam tournament in general, please contact CFSW 2010 Ottawa National Slammaster Rusty Priske (rustypriske at rogers dot com).

The festival begins seven weeks from today - check out http://www.cfsw.ca/ for updates, information and more!

Is there a drop out deadline for those who made the draw?

At the moment we are assuming that everyone who made it will be there (I mean the draw was only the day after they submitted to come), but we are maintaining the waiting list all the way through (we drew all 32 names... we are only publicizing the list of 8 though. otherwise it gets a little ridiculous).

Technically the 'drop out deadline' is 15 minutes before the show, but if anyone changes their plans and can no longer attend at an earlier point than that, I would hope that they would tell us. :)

For a person like Steve, who is sitting on the bubble... do I think he will get a chance to slam? I really don't know. I hope he comes regardless, but whether someone will drop out... time will tell.
