The Summer Season and the quest to be Vancouver's IWPS rep gets started on Monday May 3rd with a special featured performance by the Vancouver Poetry Slam's prodigal daughter, Magpie Ulysses.Magpie Ulysses is a performance poet. Her “confessional poems hit hard and take the reader through intense visceral terrain but never wallow” (Robert Priest, NOW Magazine). She is the winner of Vancouver’s 2008 CBC Poetry face-off, and has been a member of three Vancouver poetry slam teams, including two Canadian champion teams at ‘The Canadian Festival Of Spoken Word.’Most recently, Magpie was 1/4 of “Slaughterhouse Four” the wild card team at CFSW 2009. Magpie has performed and workshopped at word and music festivals, poetry slams, high schools, fundraisers, colleges and house parties across Canada and throughout the United States. She writes things down that she made up in her head.
